There’s more to being well than just exercising and focusing on healthy fare. Taking a complete idea of your health— nourishing your mind, body, and soul—is vital for your overall health. We like to refer to this as self-care. Here are some of our favorite ways to practice self-care.
We may be observing social distancing, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t connect with each other! Arrange a digital coffee date or happy hour with your friends. Keep it cheerful and tell each other something good that happened to you recently. Talk about plans for when you can be together again and how nice it will be to give them a big, warm hug. Together we are stronger and can be there for each other. That’s what friends are supposed to do!
Follow a Flexible Routine
Craft an agenda for your day but allow for some flexibility. For instance, wake up around the same time in the morning and head to bed around the same time every night. Draft your objectives for the day and schedule your work tasks, but allow some time for your daily workout, a walk around the neighborhood, or to dig into your favorite book. Don’t be too rigid with your agenda that you add unnecessary stress. Finding a balance between a schedule and relaxation will help you have a more constructive and gratifying day.
Appreciation is good for all people. The more gratitude we display to others during difficult times, the happier and more resilient we become. Provide others grace. One of our preferred ways to offer gratitude is to contact a loved one and express to them how much you appreciate them. A a simple note is also a welcome and enjoyable surprise that is sure to make a person’s day.
Nothing’s better than spending time outdoors, taking in the fresh air. Take a break and walk with your pet or family every day after lunch. Call hello to your neighbors (from a physical distance) and ask them how they’re holding up. Hang out in the sunlight for for some time and focus on taking slow breaths—you will feel so much better!
Just because we can’t go out for a meal at our favorite places doesn’t mean we can’t appreciate meal time! Create a new recipe for dinner and make your meals an event. Queue up your favorite song, get the kids in on the process, and have a fun time with it!
